Sloane Kaplan
Sloane Kaplan Founder, kapi

Hi, I'm Sloane.

Engineering student, entrepreneur, and builder.

I'm passionate about creating solutions at the intersection of sustainability, technology, and community. Throughout my time at the University of Michigan, I've led multidisciplinary engineering projects, worked with industry partners across defense and mobility, and founded organizations that connect students with hands-on opportunities to tackle real-world challenges.

My experiences in engineering design, emerging technologies, and startup development have shown me how much valuable material is discarded simply because the right connections don't exist.

That realization inspired Kapi.

Kapi was built to bridge the gap between people who have unused materials and those who can transform them into something new. By creating a platform for sharing, sourcing, and showcasing materials and projects, I hope to make sustainable creation more accessible while fostering a community of makers, engineers, artists, and innovators.

I believe the future of engineering isn't just about creating new things — it's about finding better ways to use what we already have.

Material waste is a massive, unsolved problem.

Across industries, valuable materials are discarded simply because the right marketplace doesn't exist.

Automotive
$50B+
in surplus parts scrapped annually

Manufacturers, dealers, and repair shops discard billions in usable components each year — from body panels to electronic modules — that never find a second use.

Construction
30%
of all building materials go to waste

The construction industry generates over 600 million tons of waste annually in the US alone. Leftover lumber, fasteners, and hardware are routinely landfilled rather than reused.

Electronics
62M
tonnes of e-waste generated per year

Components, wires, boards, and modules worth billions are discarded every year. Less than 20% of global e-waste is formally recycled — the rest is lost to landfills forever.

Simple. Circular. Sustainable.

01

Find materials

Browse screws, wire, paint, wood, and more from verified makers and sellers. Filter by category, condition, and price.

02

Connect & buy

Message sellers directly. Buyer pays shipping — sellers get a prepaid label and keep 100% of their listed price.

03

Build & share

Turn leftover materials into kreations. Share your builds, inspire makers, and list project kits others can buy.

04

AI project ideas

Add materials to your cart and our AI agent suggests creative projects you can build with exactly what you've got.

05

Seller analytics

Track revenue, views, and carbon emissions saved in your seller dashboard. Know your circular economy impact.

06

Track your impact

Every item sold avoids new manufacturing emissions. We calculate your CO₂ offset automatically on your profile.

Share your builds.
Sell your ideas.

Post what you've built, share how you built it, and sell curated project kits — the exact materials used, ready for the next maker.

Kreate Kits

When you post a kreation, you can bundle the exact materials you used into a Kreate Kit — a purchasable list of components, parts, or supplies. Other makers can buy your kit and start building with the same ingredients that inspired you. It's how ideas become movements.

26 AWG fine for signal lines?
Been using 22 AWG everywhere but wondering if 26 AWG is fine for low-current signals in tight enclosures. Trying to save space on my next board.

Chalk paint over latex — sealer needed?
Waxing chalk paint over old latex on pine shelves. Do I need a poly coat on top or will the wax hold up on its own?
